New #OA Paper Alert!  “Understanding debates about Asiatic cheetah conservation through media analysis” With #Mahshid_Hosseini, @meredithgore and @DNayeri

In this paper, we analyzed 91 interviews by 44 conservation stakeholders (academics, government, and NGO) in Persian-language media from January 2018 to December 2020.  There is a heated debate on Asiatic cheetah conservation paradigms: In situ only VS In situ + ex situ

 3) We found that media framed conservationists as agreeing on  1) the critical situation of #Asiatic_Cheetahs in #IRAN  +  2) The need for high-level interventions for #conservation.  They disagree on #In_situ only VS In situ + #ex_situ between academic and NGO interviewees.

 4)  Interviews presented a balance of thematic (year-round) and episodic around National and #International_Cheetah_Days.  The current media debate was highly skewed toward non-local perspectives while views from reserve staffs were rarely (n = 2) reflected in the media.

 5) We need more #inclusion and #diversity when interviewing conservation stakeholders (#DEI)  Final Conclusion: “Disagreement in #premises, #threats, and #interventions confuse managers and potentially creates #procrastination of necessary actions”.
